1988: Municipal Engineering Discipline was rated as National Key Discipline; Environmental Chemical Engineering changed its name into Environmental Engineering

1991: Set up Civil Engineering Post-doctoral Center

1996: Launched School of Municipal and Environmental Engineering

1999: Established Post-doctoral Research Center of Environmental Science and Engineering; Environmental Engineering was rated as Key Discipline by Ministry of Construction

2000: Environmental Science and Engineering was conferred as the First-level Doctoral Discipline

2002: Environmental Engineering and Municipal Engineering were rated as State Key Disciplines

2004: Be honored as the first-batch of Excellent Innovation Group supported by the Ministry of Education

2005: Approved National Engineering Research Center; Postdoctoral Research Center of Environmental Science and Engineering was ranked first during the first round of postdoctoral research center evaluation

2007: Set up State Key Laboratory of Urban Water Resources and Environment; Launched National Engineering Research Center of Urban Water Resources; Environmental Science became National Key Cultivation Discipline

2008: Achieved National Innovation Research Group

2010: Built HY Academy of Environmental Protection

2014: Launched National Center for Virtual Experiment Teaching of Municipal and Environmental Engineering

2016: Launched School of Environment, HIT

2017: Restructured and established new SOE; Environmental Science and Engineering entered the Double-first Discipline Construction and achieved A⁺; Set up Key Area Innovative Group supported by Ministry of Science and Technology

2018: Pollutant Disposal and Energy Conversion Base was approved as National International Joint Research Center
